What is an Alexa Skill?
Alexa skills are essentially voice-activated applications that can be built to work with Amazon's virtual assistant, Alexa. These skills allow users to perform a wide range of tasks, from ordering food or playing music to controlling smart home devices and checking the weather.
There are currently thousands of skills available for Alexa, covering a wide range of categories such as health and fitness, education, games, and news. Users can enable skills by voice commands, such as "Alexa, enable the [skill name] skill," or through the Alexa app on their smartphone or tablet.

Alexa skills can offer families a convenient, hands-free way to manage daily tasks and activities, while also providing educational and entertaining opportunities for children and adults alike.

Alexa Skills for Ages 4 and up
Animal Sounds
If you can't get your kid to calm down, maybe the bark of a dog, the squeal of a dolphin, or the roar of a lion will do it. Users can ask to hear the sounds of a baboon, bear, bobcat, cat, cow, coyote, hippopotamus, lemur, lion, spider, monkey, spider monkey, rooster and so many more!
We have placed this in the 4 and up category but just as good for tantrummy two year old's.
My Fairy Tale
Start by saying "Alexa, open my fairy tale."
Using the prompts given you can customise the prince and princess themed tale. The story should be different every time and it's not only fun but a great way to build children's storytelling skills.
Phonics
Phonics by Brainspray is a great little number to initiate on car journeys - however short they may be! All this skill does is allow y our little one to fill in the blanks in these songs.
If you say 'listen' you can hear the full songs, if you say 'practise' Alexa will pause the music for your children to fill in the blanks.
Funny animal jokes
With over 65 funny animal jokes, this skill will keep your kids amused for some time. Just say, "Alexa, open funny animal jokes" and enjoy the laughter!

‘1-2-3 Math’ can help your kids enhance their numeracy skills. The skill tests your child arithmetic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and comparison to name a few.
There are three different levels with increasing difficulty so over time you can see how their skills are improving.
The Magic Door.
Alexa brings the best story time experience for children with ‘The Magic Door’.

The skill offers children to practise mental maths in a fun way. Choose from 5 levels that range from Year 1 up to Year 5 children.
It is perfect for building number fluency and speed in mental calculations. Suitable for ages: 5 -10

Amazon has narrated stories built in!
These are great for 5 to 12 year old's and great if your kids just need a bit of extra wind down time before bed.
Alexa Skills for Age 6 and up
Animal game
With over 2000 4-star reviews, this skill is quite popular among all kids.
Test Alexa’s knowledge of animals with this amazing game. At start the skill will ask children to think of an animal and then Alexa will ask questions to figure out which animal you were thinking.
To play this game children must know their animal quite well. To open say “Alexa, open Animal Game”
Times table battle
A fun multiplication game for kids ideally aged between six and twelve. Times table battle offers two modes to play. Choose from simple or battle mode.
In simple mode you have to answer the questions and score points. With time the questions get harder – up to up to 20x table. In battle mode, you have to beat Alexa with your answer. Suitable up to around 12 years.
Horrid Henry
Horrid Henry is a skill that combines music, quizzes and so much more.
You can collect Purple Hand points and climb up the purple hand rankings.

Word of the day
Start building your child’s vocabulary with ‘Word of the Day’. Alexa tells one word each day along with its definition, spelling and synonyms.

‘Twenty questions‘ is a classic family-friendly game. You can play this as a whole family. Choose from animal, vegetable or mineral. Alexa will then ask you 20 questions to figure it out.

This quiz bot has a whole ream of different general knowledge questions - from history to sports to entertainment, geography and science. All you need to do is say, "Alexa, play trivia Crack" and you can get your quiz on. Suitable for the whole family to join in with.
