Dreamy Winter Family Getaways

Escape the cold this winter with a fabulous family holiday. Treat yourself to some quality time in the sun and make unique and unforgettable memories. Destinations are less crowded and often cheaper than peak summer months so there's plenty of reason to click and go.

Whether you are looking to escape the pressure of Christmas, make some new family traditions of being abroad when it is cold at home or simply looking for the chance to relax and let someone else do the cooking, a winter getaway really does make sense.

And to help inspire your next winter trip, we've gathered some fabulous hotels in some sunny destinations this winter to give you something to look forward to. And if you're stuck on what to get your family for Christmas, maybe a dreamy holiday will top the list. We're pretty sure your kids will thank you.

We've picked this hotel as the stunning pool scene, short flight time and location by the beach would make it a brilliant location for a winter family holiday. To be more specific, there are two family-sized pools and a theatre at the Occidental Jandia Mar. Plus, it's the short 10-minute walk from the centre of Jandia mean there is plenty to do in and around the hotel, should you wish to leave.

The entertainment gets top marks here. The hotel puts on big-scale shows and nights of live music in its own theatre. There are lots of activities to keep you busy during the day, too – like aquagym and yoga.

Typical Canarian recipes are served up between two restaurants. One’s a buffet and the other’s an à la carte*. There are three bars, as well, serving a wide range of cocktails. This holiday deal is half board, however there is the option to upgrade to all inclusive so that everything is taken care of.

THE BEST BIT

The hotel has it's own mini waterpark so your kids can splash around in the free adventure playground that shows off a trio of seven-meter-high waterslides. It also has a pirate ship with a slide and a splash area for littler ones. And the hotel has a professionally run kids club meaning that you can have some down time and enjoy your holiday

Prices start at £687 per person for a week half board, flying from Gatwick on the 17th December including luggage and transfers. Other dates are available. Find out more about this fabulous holiday HERE

Fancy a touch of luxury this winter? Families have plenty to keep them busy at the Hotel Club Jandia Princess. And grown ups will love the extra pools, restaurant and chill-out area that are reserved just for them.

Getting to the beach is easy here – steps lead straight to it. Meanwhile, the tropical gardens are home to four big pools – three of them are just for over 18s. There's a big buffet restaurant for families, and a place that's exclusively for adults, too so whether you're travelling with kids, or your partner, there is something for everyone.

On top of pools and restaurants, the grounds are home to tennis courts and an adults-only wellness area. In the evenings, live acts take centre stage and of course there is a fantastic hotel run kids club so that you can make the most of the adult only areas if you wish.

THE BEST BIT

The pools at this hotel are heated during the winter so you can bathe comfortably all day long and your little ones won't be chilly when they dip in and out of the pool. Plus, the Bali beds, whirlpool bath and children's pool shows just how special the pool scene is here. Oh, and there is a adult only naturist pool, if that tickles your fancy.

TripAdvisor reviewers love Pickalbatros Jungle Aqua Park Resort Neverland and it is easy to see why as it boasts 21 pools and Hurghada’s biggest waterpark. The pictures do not do it justice. This really is an exceptional hotel for any thrill seeking kids, or their grown ups. And it is all on site.

Water babies really will be in their element here – as well as the hotel being home to Hurghada’s biggest waterpark, which comes with 35 slides it also has a range of outdoor pools to enjoy. The bungalow-style rooms are dotted around the grounds, so you're never far from the water.

And when it comes to dining, there’s a choice of 6 themed restaurants for you to enjoy, including a buffet restaurant meaning that even the trickiest of eaters will find something they love. The hotel allows you access to the private beach at the nearby Dana Beach Hotel so you can totally relax.

THE BEST BIT

We've already spilled the beans about this hotel's waterpark, however there is a total of 32 pools in total onsite and the largest main pool is heated during the winter months so there really is no reason not to splash about all day long. There is also a wave pool and lazy river to enjoy. This is the sort of hotel that you probably won't need to leave once you arrive as there is so much to do.

Prices start at £797 per person for a week all inclusive, flying from Glasgow on the 20th December including luggage and transfers. Other dates are available. Find out more about this fabulous holiday click HERE

The real centrepiece here is the pool scene. There are two lagoon-like numbers in a courtyard with a poolside bar, allowing you to well and truly relax in the sunshine. Children have a pair of shallower spots to play in, too, along with a slide-filled splash park to keep them busy.

Another bonus is the accommodation - you'll be staying in an apartment (1 bedroom or more) and located in the peaceful suburbs of Costa Teguise means your stay will be tranquil but you’re not far from the action – the town’s restaurant-lined beachfront is only a short stroll away.

THE BEST BIT

For holidays over Christmas, you can enjoy a splendid Christmas Day Gala meal, meaning you don't have to cook or prepare and you can make new memories and traditions by being abroad at this time of year. Water sports fans will also find windsurfing, surfing and diving on offer at Las Cucharas beach which a five-minute stroll away. After all, holidays are a great time to try something new.

The giant pool at Hotel Beatriz Costa & Spa was built with families in mind, and what is more, it is heated during the winter months and so you can dip in and out all day long. There is also an additional children's pool so this could easily be a holiday that is spent beside or in the water. Perfect for any water babies out there.

Kids really have got the run of the place here. There are activities and games that run throughout the day, as well as evening shows for all the family. There is a professionally run kids club for those aged 4-12 which could allow the grown ups to make use of the super spa facilities onsite.

When you’re peckish, head to one of the three restaurants – there's a buffet number, a themed place, and the third is an off-the-menu place by the pool. A pair of bars keep drinks and evening shows in check, too.
